Why won't my remote work with my DVR?

Our DVR models ship with remotes that are programmable in order to control multiple units with one remote. If the remote is not working with the DVR you wish, check the face of the DVR and see if the ACT indicator is lit. If not, then the remote is not programmed to control this DVR. Enter the configuration of the DVR and go to Main Menu -> Setting -> General and look for the field DVR No. this is the identifier that needs to be entered into the remote. On the remote control, press the Add button (the REMOTE ADDRESS box should appear on your screen), enter the DVR No. using the numeric keys on the remote and press Enter/Menu. The ACT light should now be lit and you should be able to control the DVR with the remote. If you are still having problems, try changing batteries in the remote and try programming the remote on another DVR if possible. If this does not solve your problem contact your vendor for further help.

Why can’t I access menus or see the mouse cursor or status icons on my LTA-RT4 or JS Series DVR?

Most likely, your display device is plugged into the Video Out BNC port number 2 on the back of the DVR. This is for spot monitor use and will not display status icons or menus. Change your display device to Video Out BNC port number 1 to resolve this problem.

My VGA monitor is showing a garbled, split screen image when attached to my LTA-RT4 or JS Series DVR.

Your DVR is trying to use the BNC output as its main display port. If you are using an LTA-RT4 press and hold the Shift key for seven to ten seconds. If you have a JS Series DVR press and hold the  key located directly beneath the 7 and to the left of the 0 on the numeric keypad of the DVR.

I’ve forgotten my password for the admin account of my DVR.

The DVR is shipped with two administrative accounts, admin and 888888. You should have changed passwords for both of these accounts upon your first login. If you did not change the default password for account 888888 and can not remember your password for admin, log into the 888888 account with password 888888. Refer to your User’s Manual for the procedure to change your admin password. If you can not access any account on your DVR, contact your vendor.

Why can’t I see video when connecting my TV/monitor to the HDMI port of my DVR?

Most probably, the resolution set for the display of your DVR is incompatible with the setting for your TV/monitor. Most new televisions and monitors that have HDMI connections are auto-detecting as far as resolution goes, but not if the device connecting to them is using a resolution that is not in the range of the display device. Try using a VGA monitor with your DVR and go to Main Menu -> Setting -> Display and set your Resolution to 1280x720 (720p). Most televisions and monitor devices that have an HDMI connection will be able to automatically detect this resolution and adjust for it. If this does not work, try to manually set the resolution for your TV/monitor to match what your DVR is set to.

How do I play back files that have been downloaded from my DVR?

The files downloaded from your DVR are encoded in a proprietary format. In order to view them you must use the File Player utility that was included on the CD that came with your DVR. If you no longer have the CD you can go to http://www.cctvdealers.com/Resources and choose the model of your DVR and download the File Player.

When playing back files on my DVR, I can’t find video for the time and date that I’m looking for.

When performing searches for files to play back on the DVR the time and data parameters are a starting point and the search results are limited to 128 returned entries. If your file is not within those 128 returned results, try moving your starting parameters forward and search again.

The infrared LEDs on my dome or cylinder camera don’t work or my camera doesn’t have video.

The majority of problems that we find with cameras are not problems at all, but power issues. You should always bench test cameras upon receipt and especially before installation. It is recommended to have a local power transformer that provides 12V and at least 500mA for testing. If your camera works with the local power supply then your problem is more than likely associated with the cable run being too far away or power being insufficient.

I have a picture from my PTZ camera but no movement control.

This is usually one of two issues, lack of power or an incorrectly configured control device.

Most PTZ cameras require more power than a dome or cylinder camera. Our ACD-3500 and ACD-4000 models require 24V, 2.5A power supplies. The OMX-500 or IMX-500 models require 12V, 2A power supplies. Always test your PTZ cameras upon receiving them with the power supply included with the unit.

PTZ control also requires that the communication parameters of the PTZ camera match exactly with those of the controlling device. Upon power up, our PTZ cameras will provide an on screen display (OSD) showing these parameters. Please refer to your controlling device documentation on how to configure it.

I can’t see video windows when connecting to my DVR using Internet Explorer 8.

If you connect to your DVR with IE8 and see your camera list on the far left of the screen and your PTZ controls right next to the list and at the bottom of the screen then you need to enable Compatibility View. Click on the Tools menu (or press Alt-T) and select Compatibility View. You will need to refresh your session with the DVR (press the F5 key) and log back in for this change to take effect.

I’ve converted my downloaded video file to AVI format, but still receive an error when trying to play it.

You will need to download and install the XVid codec (coder/decoder) from http://www.xvid.org.

My USB flash drive is not being recognized when I try to use it for backing up files.

In order for the DVR to see a USB backup storage device it must be formatted using FAT32. Insert your flash drive in a PC, open My Computer, right click on your USB device and select Format. Make sure that the File System field contains FAT32 and press the Start button. Warning: formatting a device will erase all information currently stored on it.

I can’t hear sound from my DVR channels.

Ensure that audio is enabled for the channel you wish to hear in Main Menu -> Setting -> Encode. The channel must be in full screen mode on the console of the DVR. The microphone device must provide line-level input and be connected to the proper audio input lead of the multi-audio connection cable and powered speakers must be connected to the blue audio out lead of the multi-audio connection cable.

My DVR is not adjusting for Daylight Savings Time.

If you are in a time zone that utilizes Daylight Savings Time (DST), you can configure your DVR to automatically adjust. In the Main Menu -> Setting -> General configuration menu, check the DST box and press the Set button to configure the starting and ending period for DST. Currently, DST is set to begin at 2:00am on the second Sunday in March and will end at 2:00am on the first Sunday in November.

I’m getting a lot of very small motion detect files that don’t show any action.

Is there something causing intermittent motion such as a flag waving or branch of a tree waving in the wind? You can exclude areas of your cameras view by going to Main Menu -> Setting -> Detect and pressing the Select button next to Region. This will allow you mask out areas of the view, a red tint means that the area is detecting motion, clear is masked out. You may also be experiencing vibration movement or some sort of electronic interference with your camera or its cabling. Try reducing your sensitivity setting by one step in the Main Menu -> Setting -> Detect configuration page. If the problem persists you can modify your anti-dither setting which by default is set to 0 seconds. Anti-dither is the duration of motion that must occur in order for the DVR to consider it a motion detect event. If you set this to 1 second, then the DVR must experience 1 second of continuous motion in order for motion detection to occur. Exercise caution when changing this parameter, setting it too high may not properly capture motion detection events.

I’m seeing a wavering horizontal line on my camera output.

This is most often caused by electronic interference such as fluorescent lighting or an electromagnetic field affecting the cable run to a camera.

I’ve configured my DVR for motion detect recording, but can’t find any recorded video except for channel 1 which seems to record continuously, even when motion isn’t occurring.

When configuring the DVR for motion detect recording an option is available within the Main Menu -> Setting -> Detect configuration page that allows you to select configuration for all channels. If you select all channels and then configure your motion detect action to record channel 1, it will carry over to all channels. To confirm this, within the Main Menu -> Setting -> Detect configuration page, choose a random channel and see if it is set to record the proper channel when motion detection occurs, or does it record channel 1? Motion detect actions need to be individually defined for each channel.

I’ve configured my recording settings properly, but am still not getting recorded video.

Channels that are recording video are noted with the green reel-to-reel tape symbol in their individual video window on the console of the DVR. If you believe your settings are correct, but are still not seeing the record icon, do the following: Check your manual record settings on the DVR by pressing the Rec button on the DVR or right-clicking the mouse and choosing Record. The manual record settings are the highest priority for the DVR, so if they are set to “Stop” then no recording will occur. By default all channels should be set to “Schedule”. If this does not solve the problem, go to Main Menu -> Advanced -> HDD Management and check the Status of your hard drive to ensure that it does not have an error. If your hard drive is in an error status, you may select Recover from the pull down menu and press the Execute button. If this does not correct the error, you may also try to reformat the drive by selecting Format from the pull down menu and pressing the Execute button. If the problem persists after these actions, contact your vendor for further support.
